So earlier on... a fan had brought up people always bitch and complain to each other when it comes to taste in music. It's funny because it's extremely true... it happens all the time
"Awwh dude you listen to that band?! Your taste in music fucking blows! What the hell is the matter with you?"
In reality, it shouldn't matter to you. No one should ever have to explain why or why not they like what they do because as I've said before in a previous rant. Musical taste is completely subjective.
My musical taste is extremely broad as I listen to all sorts of genres... from progressive metal to new age to gangsta rap to dubstep to horrorpunk to technical death metal... I love it all man.
I'd say my FAVORITE genres are most likely progressive metal because it's primarily based on experimentation. Progressive metal has a strong emphasis on technicality and theoretical complexity. This is done by playing complex rhythms and implementing unusual time signatures and song structures - all with the use of traditional instruments. I absolutely love this genre because I enjoy hearing complex songs from instruments to the lyrics themselves. Complex arranges intrigue me. Hence one of my all time favorite bands is Tool.
Another favorite genre of mine is folk metal because it's an extremely interesting mix of heavy metal and traditional folk music. I'm a huge nerd and the fact that a large part of folk metal bands lyrics commonly deal with fantasy, mythology, paganism, history and nature... I pretty much eat that up. I know it may sound silly but to me I LOOOVE this music because its uplifting, fun and filled with adventure like it's taking me on wondrous journey somewhere. Examples of this are: Moonsorrow, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Finntroll, Eluveitie, and Alestorm.
I could say more about the other genres I adore but I think you guys are understanding what I mean after these two prime examples.
In the end of it all... it's ALL about how the music you enjoy moves you. Nothing more than that. With all this in mind, listen to your music and be happy. Stop judging others for what they like. Thank you for reading this rant! Good day.
