I Didn't Know
A baby born, two parents proud, a wonder to behold. So full of love, a wonderful home, happiness all around. A life time of dreams, tons of hope, so far into the future seen. Not knowing what the future brings and all the “I didn’t know”s.
A baby no longer, a tall young man, with now his own dreams, hides a secret not well known and fears to share for the reaction to be had.
Time passes slow, his secret brought to light, although his parents still love him, he is banished from their site. His peers the same reaction, fear and hate all around. The torment never ends, he wonders to himself when the pain will end and his suffering will cease.
The wheels of fate start turning, the answer for him in site. A solution to his problem, it will end in darkest night.
He tells them all he loves them and he is doing well, even though the pain he feels is outpouring from his being.
He sits alone, it’s too much now, the answer comes again. One last call made, to those that bare, three words he has to say….I…love…you.
A mother panicked, a call has shaken the foundation of what she built, hurries to the aid of her banished child. Climbing the stairs the storm brewing, the clouds ever so black. She hears the Thunder and see’s the lightning, it’s over in a flash.
Tears of sorrow, years of pain, A life so full of hope, Ended in an instance because of a few jokes.
The kids all stand around and look at what they have done, reflect on the things they said and things that were not done, to put him in the ground.
They say they are not to blame; they could not have caused that much pain.
The World stands in wonder and all that can be heard is a thousand, I didn’t know.
The Mother and Father wish that they could change how his world ended and take away all the pain. It’s too late now, what is said is done and their son is in the ground.
He could have been saved, his life not cut short, all it would have taken is a little bit of work. Someone to stand by him, a bully shot down, the feeling of acceptance while living in a town. A simple smile, a friendly hello, the occasional wave was all it would have taken to save the boy that’s in the ground.
The tides start turning in the parents heart, the pain turns to anger and their world is torn apart. I didn’t know is no longer good and the signs are brought to light. The world starts to realize that the parents are right. I did know the symptoms and I saw the signs, I was too weak and afraid to ask him if he would be alright.
A boy buried, a home destroyed, Is all that can be found.
